France vs Italy

Aston Martin – V12 Vantage
Thanks to that enormous engine producing 380kw the Vantage now accelerates to 100km/h in 4 seconds and the standard carbon ceramic brakes will slow things down when they start to get a bit scary. The suspension is harder too, which confirms that this car is no longer a GT car it is definitely not a cheaper alternative to the DBS, it is a completely different animal. The problem is that now it has to compete with the likes of the Ferrari 430, the Lamborghini Gallardo, the Audi R8 V10 and the Porsche 911 Turbo. You might think that Aston does not have what it takes to compete with those cars, you might think that Aston are out of their depth and that they should rather stick to the slower, more comfortable Grand Tourers, but such thinking is the same as Hitler thinking that he could conquer the world with an army of blonde haired, blue eyed pretty boys… its wrong. Its up there with the best of them and best of all it has an Aston Martin badge which is the same as having 500 litres of sophistication and cool stuck to the bonnet. Share

Nissan GT-R - White Lightning
When I first saw the GT-R up close I was not entirely convinced that Nissan understood the point of a supercar. A supercar is not supposed to be practical in any way, you are not supposed to be able to get in and out with a modicum of dignity, it is not supposed to have back seats (which the Nissan has), or a large boot (which the Nissan has) and it is not supposed to be able to drive over speed bumps (which the Nissan can). However the feeling that Nissan had got it wrong disappeared when I pulled on the Aston Martin style door handle and stepped into one of the best interiors I have ever seen.

Audi S5 - Stunningly Average

The designers of the S5 have really pulled out all the stops and they have created something exquisite. From its Maserati-esque rear end, to its sloping cat like side profile, the S5 is definitely the Heidi Klum of the coupe market, although I still feel that those daytime running lights should be used sparingly, I’m not sure every person wants the front of their car to look like a Pick ‘n Pay checkout counter at Christmas.

The BMW X1 - What were they thinking?
The X1 – the most pointless design the car maker has ever produced. It was decided by somebody at BMW, dressed in a brown suite, at a caffeine and beer fueled meeting, that the X3 was “just far too big” for any reasonable person to be able to drive. So what they did was send the X3 through a photocopy machine set at 40%, build the car and then leave it outside for the wind to erode away the bonnet and boot panels – its hideous. However unlike the aforementioned 6 and 5-Series models the X1 design does not conjure up hatred or disgust, you simply ignore the car on the road and continue on your way.

Super SUVs

Super SUV’s

By Ryan Russell

In the past supercars were considered to be 2 seated, cramped, uncomfortable weekend show off cars that were driven to the nearest hot-spot for people to gawk at. The speed that those cars delivered was as intoxicating as their styling and the fuel consumption figures were only dwarfed by their price tags.
